Sylvia

A performance work inspired by Sylvia Plath's novel The Bell Jar.

A woman is standing facing a wall where a picture of the sea is hanging. As she starts moving and cleaning about, pieces of written memories appear in different corners of the room. They form into an inner monologue hiding a dark secret from her past. She moves objects in the room to try and hide these pieces of memory, but instead keeps revealing more and more. The words gradually take over until they come out of her own body.

The audience is constantly moving around in order to follow the texts that reveal themselves and form a monologue.

 

The performance was created as part of the studies in The Scholl of Visual Theatre.

It later won first prize in the Performance Competition in the Hebrew University in 2011, and performed in Hazira theatre and as part of the Hamshushalaym Festival in Jerusalem.
